Gloucestershire Morris Men were formed of what remained of a revival side in Cheltenham in the 1930s. We are one of the longest-running sides in the country. We predominantly perform dances from the Gloucestershire villages, Oddington, Bledington, Longborough and Sherborne. We also perform dances from Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire.
We have danced in France, Bavaria, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Catalonia.
We organise the St Stephens day celebrations at the Cathedral which includes our presentation of the traditional Gloucester Mummers play.
We recently moved to St Mary’s Congregational Church by the wonderful Pelican Inn for our practices and in 2022 welcomed ladies into the side so now we are Gloucestershire Morris. Our practices this year start on 19th September at 7.45pm followed by some music and song in the Pelican.
On Gloucester Day this year we will be running two taster sessions at The Folk of Gloucester 10.00am and 12.00 noon. Come along and have a go and help keep our traditions alive.
