Write the Spirit of Westgate: Creative Writing Workshop

Gloucester Civic Trust, Cathedral Quarter
The Folk of Gloucester 99 - 103 Westgate Street, Gloucester, GL1 2PG

Come and join current Westgate artist-in-residence- stand-up poet and theatremaker Jonny Fluffypunk- for a fun and engaging two-hour creative writing workshop that aims to look at this ancient quarter of the city not only with fresh eyes, but also bird’s eyes, ghost’s eyes, and surreally-playful eyes, and in so doing we’ll hopefully come face-to-face with the untameable, unquenchable, multi-faceted and parti-coloured Spirit of Westgate. Our mission is to capture it’s snapshot likeness in a poem. No two will be the same. Oh, and maybe we’ll do a bit of sctibbling, too. Warmth and supportiveness guaranteed. Open to beginners and established writers alike.

About Jonny:

Stand-up poet, performer, and lo-fi theatremaker Jonny Fluffypunk has been dragging his art around the UK and occasionally beyond for over 25 years, fusing bittersweet autobiography, disillusionment and wonder into an act that has established him as a firm favourite at gigs, festivals and housing benefit offices across the UK and occasionally beyond. Jonny runs poetry and performance workshops, putting shapes and colours into people’s minds and nurturing potential in schools, youth clubs, libraries, colleges, old people’s homes, pupil referral units, prisons- in fact, anywhere where there’s humans. Jonny is co-host of ‘the West Country’s favourite pop-up poetry gig’, Hip Yak Poetry Shack, and host of Stroud’s Mr Fluffypunk’s Penny Gaff, bringing obscure art to the masses.
